PRIOR TO YOUR SCHEDULED PROCEDURE / SURGERY:
  • Your physician has discussed your procedure/surgery with you and scheduled it with us.
  • Be aware of any changes in your physical condition - such as sore throat, cold, or fever prior to your surgery.
  • Consult your physician if any changes occur.
  • Your physician’s office will give you specific instructions to follow prior to your procedure/surgery. If you have any questions regarding your instructions, you should contact your physician.
WHAT TO EXPECT THE DAY OF SURGERY:

Pre-Operatively

  • On arrival at the Center, you will be asked to fill out a few required forms.
  • Please have your insurance card and driver’s license available – we will need to make a copy of it for our records.
  • A nurse will ask you questions regarding your health history and medications. You may feel free to ask any questions you might have.
  • You will be escorted to the pre-operative area where the nurse will prepare you for your procedure/surgery. You will change into a gown provided by the Center and your clothes will be stored in a locker.
  • Your anesthetist and physician will discuss your procedure with you and answer any questions that you might have.

Post-Operatively

  • Following your surgery/procedure, you will be transferred to the recovery area where the Center’s nursing staff will monitor your recovery.
  • Recovery time will vary depending on the type of surgery / procedure performed and/or anesthesia administered.
  • The physician and nursing staff will answer questions and give you written instructions for post-operative recovery. Please follow these instructions for a speedy recovery.
  • Upon discharge, have a responsible adult with you to drive you home. No taxi, bus, Uber, Lyft or other public transportation.

When you get home

  • It is not uncommon to experience drowsiness and/or dizziness following anesthesia. These effects fade away in the hours following surgery.
  • Please do not engage in the following activities for at least 24 hours after your procedure

    • Driving/operating machinery
    • Drinking alcoholic beverages
    • Making important personal/business decisions

  • Please call your physician if you experience a persistent medical problem after discharge.
  • Contact your physician if you have questions about what you can and cannot do, when you can return to work, and how active you can be.
SURGERY CHECKLIST:

* DO *

DO wear loose fitting comfortable clothes and flat shoes.

DO have your driver’s license, insurance card, living will and/or power of attorney papers (if applicable) with you.

DO bring a list of you current medication including the dosages.

DO have a responsible adult with you at the center to drive you home or ride with you in a cab.

DO arrange for child care and a responsible adult to stay with you at home.

DO review the brochure given to you regarding your rights and responsibilities and advance directives. You can also find it on the website (patient brochure).

DO bring any crutches, canes, boots, etc. given to you by your doctor.

DO notify your doctor prior to coming to the Center if you have a cold, fever of 100º F or higher, or an infection of any kind.

* DO NOT *

DO NOT eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery, and only take medicine you have been instructed to take with a small sip of water.

DO NOT smoke or chew tobacco after midnight.

DO NOT bring valuables, jewelry, or body piercings

DO NOT wear contact lenses, nail polish, hairspray make-up, lotions, jewelry, false eyelashes, hairpieces, hairpins or clips.
YOUR SURGERY WILL BE CANCELLED IF:
  • You eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery or the morning of your surgery.
  • You do not have a responsible adult with you at the center who can remain during your surgery and drive you home or accompany you in a cab. You may not ride the bus home.
  • You have not arranged for a responsible adult to care for you at home the night of the surgery.
INSURANCE AND FEES:

The Center participates in Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and most HMOs and PPOs. Your physician's office should assist you in pre-authorizing your surgery/procedure, but we suggest that you check with your insurance provider as well. Medical insurance is a contract between you and your insurance provider. You are responsible for payment in full and should be aware of any deductible amount due. If we do not participate with your insurance, we will provide the necessary papers for you to file for reimbursement with your insurance provider..

Facility Fee

A pre-determined facility fee will be charged for surgeries/procedures performed at the Center, and will vary based upon the type of surgery/procedure performed. This fee includes pre-operative evaluation, use of the operating / procedure room, post-operative recovery services and routine drugs and supplies. (Note: You may be responsible for Durable Medical Equipment, such as crutches, slings, etc. that may not be covered by your insurance company.)

Anesthesia Fee

Your anesthetist will bill you independently for his/her professional services. This fee will cover pre-operative anesthesia consultation and operating / procedure room anesthesia services.

Physician's Fee

Your Physician will bill you independently for his/her professional services. Please contact your Physician directly if you have any questions regarding the same.
